This four foot long wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri,) known as ono in Hawaiian, was caught on the Chang family fishing trip off Lāna‘i, Hawaii on July 3, 2021!  It was a family effort to land this particular large fish. Ono typically run from around March to June, so we had not been catching them for a while prior to this trip.  I was lucky enough to be the captain for this charter, which was full of amazing catches, near misses, some delicious rare fish and a wonderful family!  Wahoo are prized sport fish and are most often caught via trolling.  This species is not typically targeted by commercial fisheries and is therefore not considered to be overfished at all.  Wahoo are delicious as sashimi, poke and fish tacos! Kacy and I worked together to create the raw print of this fish, which turned out better than any initial print I have ever done.  Even the center of the eye came through without any additional paint added to the print!  The original piece stayed in traditional Japanese form of only black and white with very few details added. The eye even printed as it is and was not added afterward.  This is a reproduction of that intitial "Raw Print"
