I created this piece after my partner Kacy and I each speared an orange spine unicornfish (Naso lituratus), known as umauma lei in Hawaiian. She got the bigger male (foreground fish) and I got the female. I printed both of these fish at the same time which was a bit challenging. We love to harvest these fish because they are plentiful and taste a lot like shrimp! We typically grill them and eat with a butter garlic sauce. Orange-spine unicornfish have two spines at the base of their tail which are very sharp and are bright orange to warn off potential predators.
Media: Acrylic Paint, watercolor and prisma colors on rice paper mounted in traditional urauchi (wetmount) style
