No humuhumunukunukuapua’as aka, reef triggerfish (Rhinecanthus rectangulus) were harmed in the creation of these prints! We caught, printed, then cooked up the more palatable, Bridled Triggerfish. I added in all the coloration and details to turn this gray fish into our beautiful little Hawaiian state fish. The phrase nukunukuapua’a translates to “nose like a pig.” These fish not only have little snouts, but they are known to grunt like pigs when frightened. Pictured is the fish originally used to create the print. I name my fish as I work them up. This little guy had some sass and flare and Lil Nas popped into my head and stuck. I love the way that the colors, stripes and patterns of this fish species pop and are so distinct. Nature is Wild!!!
