Hand embellished Custom Reproduction piece.
Size 20" x 40"
I completed this piece closer to the traditional Japanese style of Gyotaku. Thererfore I only added in some details and kept the piece in black and white. This Gray/ Green Snapper is called Uku in Hawaiian. Uku are known as benthopelagic fish, and are popular sportfish in Hawaii. They are generally caught via bottom fishing gear or by spearfishermen. However, my crew was lucky enough to nab this beauty while trolling during a sunset trip off Lāna‘i. Due to some strange weather that eve, the captain decided to go a different route and hugged the southern coastline towards Maui while dragging some fishing lines. The reel screamed near Kamaiki Point and this Uku was surprisingly brought onboard! The crew shared this delicious fish after I was lucky enough to print it. These snappers have beautiful scales and fin rays that all showed up perfectly on the print!
