This is one amazing creature! Titan Scorpionfish (Scorpaenopsis cacopsis) or Nohu in Hawaiian are masters at blending into the reef. These fish are one of my absolute favorites to find on the reef while diving. They can match their coloration to their surroundings and have appendages extending from their faces that resemble algae. Scorpionfish also have several spines over their armoured face as well as in fins. Their spines house poison which make for a very painful puncture wound. These amazing ambush predators are also very tasty with delicate white flesh and are therefore sought after by spearfishermen. My friend Joemar nabbed this large Nohu while freediving off of the west side of Lāna‘i. Printing this fish was very special for me and though Kacy thinks its a pretty ugly creature, I love it! It was a challenge to print and to create the crazy patterns and details.
