ORIGINAL Gyotaku piece.

Size: Approximately 80" x 36"

This large wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri,) known as ono in Hawaiian, was caught on a Fishing trip off Lāna‘i.  Ono typically run from around late March to June and are prized sport fish and are most often caught via trolling.  This species is not typically targeted by commercial fisheries and is therefore not considered to be overfished at all.  Wahoo are delicious as sashimi, poke, ceviche and fish tacos! I created this piece with the exact lure used to catch this fish.  This was around a 50 lb fish and measured to be 56” in length.  This piece could easily be divided into a diptych or triptych.
