ORIGINAL Gyotaku piece.
Size: Approximately 31" x 37"
This Gray/ Green Snapper is called Uku in Hawaiian. Uku are known as benthopelagic fish, and are popular sportfish in Hawaii. They are generally caught via bottom fishing gear or shot by spearfishermen. This predatory fish is one of the more challenging fish to shoot which makes for a greater reward to eat! Alex Matsumoto shot this beauty perfectly square on with the hole showing on the print in the midsection of the fish. I left this print as a Black and white image due to the perfectly printed, stark, contrasting scales. I like the traditional black and white look of the original Japanese artform at times and this print embodied that!
